Slot Machine positioning

by Lucy on Wednesday, July 22nd, 2020

Volumes have been written on this subject, and the contention and arguments about where the "hot" slot games are installed in a casino are still raging – more than 60 yrs after slot games were 1st placed in casinos.

The standard rule is that the most favorable slot machines were located just inside the entry of the casino; so that people walking by would see actual jackpot winners … be smitten to come inside and play. Our slant is that this is definitely no longer so.

Practically all of the big name casinos today are giant complexes and you no longer can see inside from the sidewalk, so there’s no longer a reason to put the ‘loose’ slot machines close-by any entrances or exits.

Another standard rule is that loose one armed bandits are positioned on the major aisles inside the casinos, again so that more potential gamblers could see winning jackpots and be influenced to play. However, we find that this also isn’t a universal rule any more.

What casinos found over the years is that people walking down the busy aisles were frequently on the way to somewhere else. If they played the slot machines at all, they would simply put in their loose change because they happened to be walking by. Win or lose, they would very often not stop to keep playing. And the last thing a casino wants is for someone to win a jackpot by playing only a few coins and then not stay to put it all back in!

Nowadays, casinos are constantly changing their philosophy about where to place the loose one armed bandits.

Casino Slot Machines

Modern casino slot machines are controlled by a computer, and the win %s are pre-programmed into the computer software.

Casino slot machines have Random # Generators which are endlessly generating combinations, even when the slot machine is not active.

Running concurrently with the RNG of the casino slot machine is the pay out %.

The pay out % controls how much the slot machine will pay out, for e.g. the pay out % could be ninety per cent, meaning the slot game will pay 90% of all the bets played, … the casino will then get to keep ten percent.

This really does not mean that each time you bet 10 credits you will receive 9 in return – where is the fun … excitement in that? Instead, the casino slot machine game just won’t payout for a little while, and then suddenly start up a hot streak and you might hit a big grand prize.

The payout percentages usually will vary between the differing games and several of the very favored casinos, for instance Golden Online Casino, which offers a payment of up to ninety-five per cent!

This means that, in essence, the slot machine takes all the $$$$$ played into it and pays it out to a couple of lucky winners. The casino only gets to keep a generally small per cent of all the plays made.

The casino one armed bandit software controls every part of the machine, from the blinking lights to the rotating of the reels.

When you hit spin on the slot machine, a combination is set up by the RNG which is linked to the pictures on the reel.
